If any of this sounds familiar,
this conversation is for you.

Most Ontario seniors in this situation feel the same thing — quietly overwhelmed, not sure who to trust, and wondering if there is really anything that can be done. There is.

Your pension covers living — barely

CPP and OAS were never meant to carry debt payments too. The gap between income and obligations grows every year.

The bank said no

Banks require income ratios that most retirees simply cannot meet. Being denied is not a personal failure — it is how the system is designed.

Selling is not an option

Your home is your history, your family's foundation, and your community. Walking away from it is not a solution — it is a loss.

Debt payments are exhausting you

Watching a significant portion of your fixed income disappear every month — when you worked your whole life for freedom — is deeply unfair.

Most people look at every option
before they find this one.

Let's be completely honest about what is available to Ontario homeowners who need cash flow relief in retirement — and why most options fall short.

Option Monthly payments? Stay in your home? Qualifies on fixed income? Verdict
Bank refinance or HELOC Yes — required Yes Usually no Usually denied
Sell and downsize No No — you leave Yes Lose your home
Private lender mortgage Yes — often higher Yes Sometimes Same pressure, higher cost
✓ Reverse mortgage No — never Yes — for life Yes — income not required Freedom

What a reverse mortgage actually is — and what it is not.

A reverse mortgage is a Canadian-regulated product that lets homeowners 55+ convert a portion of their home equity into tax-free cash — without selling, without monthly payments, and with a legal guarantee that you can never be forced to leave your home.

1

We assess your home equity together

In a calm, no-pressure conversation, we look at your home value, your current situation, and what amount of equity you could access. No paperwork yet — just an honest conversation.

2

You receive tax-free funds — your way

You can receive a lump sum, regular monthly deposits, or a combination. The money is completely tax-free and does not affect your OAS, CPP, or GIS benefits.

3

You make zero monthly payments — ever

There are no monthly mortgage payments required for as long as you live in your home. The loan and accrued interest are only repaid when you sell, move out permanently, or the estate settles.

4

Your home is legally protected for life

Canadian reverse mortgages carry a statutory guarantee: you cannot be forced to leave your home as long as you maintain it, pay property taxes, and keep it insured. Your home remains yours.

55+

Minimum age

Both homeowners on title must be at least 55. No maximum age limit.

55%

Maximum of home value

You can access up to 55% of your home's appraised value, protecting significant equity.

$0

Monthly payments required

Zero. For life. No exceptions. This is the cornerstone of the product.

100%

Tax-free funds

Funds received are not taxable income and do not reduce government benefits.

Real stories.
Real families. Real outcomes.

These are not reviews written for a website. These are letters written from the heart — by a mother and her son — about what happened when they made one phone call.

A mother's story  |  Ontario, February 2026

As a widow navigating the complexities of homeownership, I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the exceptional support from Haystax Mortgages and Mr. Susantha Akuressa. In times of uncertainty, when the weight of the world feels heavy, it is easy to feel lost.

I will always remember the moment my late husband, on his deathbed, pronounced a prayer on my behalf: "Father God, bless this woman that you gave me for so many years. When she faces difficult times in her life, please send Your Angel to help her."

When I first reached out, my family was facing the daunting prospect of losing our home. But Susantha didn't just see numbers — he saw us. Our family, our history, and our dreams. He offered groundbreaking solutions tailored to our unique situation, treating us with respect and understanding. He helped us preserve our family's foundation, enabling us to save our home and set the stage for a future where my children and grandchildren can all be under one roof.

If you are facing similar struggles, know that there are compassionate resources ready to help you navigate your path forward. You don't have to go through this alone.

Her son's story  |  Ontario, 2025–2026

Two weeks before Canada Day 2025, my widowed mother received that dreadful letter: "Lender will not renew. Pay at once." Panic, distress, threat of Power of Sale — the works.

Thankfully I remembered meeting Mr. Akuressa at a Credit Union community lending seminar the month before. His impressive concepts demonstrated experience and compassion for the full spectrum of clients. General lenders couldn't help. Mr. Akuressa took on this heavily challenging case — including our family's multi-language barrier, weakened credit scores from a family tragedy, and key documents that were delayed and simply unfindable.

This would have discouraged even seasoned financial service professionals. Not Mr. Akuressa. With iron patience and meticulous data gathering, he liaised with lenders with adept efficiency. Well after over 23 adjustments and re-directions through a translator — resounding success. That home and those family dreams were saved.

I would highly recommend Mr. Akuressa and his team for your family, your estate, and your business needs.

Things families ask
before calling.

Can I really be forced out of my home?
No. Canadian reverse mortgages carry a statutory guarantee — as long as you maintain the property, keep it insured, and pay your property taxes, you cannot be forced to leave your home under any circumstances. This guarantee holds for the life of the loan.
What happens to my children's inheritance?
Your home retains its remaining equity after the loan is repaid. Canadian regulations require that the loan amount never exceed the fair market value of your home at the time of sale, meaning your estate is fully protected from negative equity. Many families find the reverse mortgage actually preserves the estate by eliminating debt that would have otherwise consumed it.
Does this affect my CPP, OAS, or GIS?
No. Funds received through a reverse mortgage are not considered taxable income and do not affect your Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, or Guaranteed Income Supplement benefits in any way.
What if I only want to talk — no commitment?
That is exactly what the first conversation is. Susantha does not pressure, pitch, or rush. He listens to your situation, explains your options clearly, and gives you everything you need to make your own informed decision — in your own time, with your family involved if you wish.
My family speaks another language. Can you help?
Yes. Haystax Mortgage has experience working with multi-language families across Ontario and can arrange support to ensure every family member fully understands every step of the process. No one should feel excluded from a decision this important.
How quickly can I get funds?
Once an application is approved, funds are typically advanced within 30 to 45 days. The timeline depends on the appraisal process and document gathering, which Susantha's team manages on your behalf.

You don't have to go through this alone.

One honest conversation — free, private, and completely without pressure — could change your next thirty years.
